Week 10: Quilting Books!

This month's theme is INSPIRATION. This month we will cover many of the things that inspire us as we organize our sewing spaces. We will tackle quilting books, patterns, social media, and more!

Let's get started with books. Quilt books are so much fun, aren't they? I just love it when I get a new quilt book and pour through the pages looking at all the amazing and inspiring patterns. They teach us, they help us improve our craft, and they inspire us.

Cleaning out and organizing books can pose challenges, though. If you are like me, you have a lot of different kinds of books: patterns, informational, historical, and even sentimental. What do you keep and what do you get rid of?

In this week's video, I will discuss how to organize your quilt books. Here is this week's video:

Your tasks for this week's challenge:

1. Gather up all your books in one place and start going through them.

Like always: SORT into three piles:

  • Donate/Sell

  • Give away

  • Keep

2. Get the ones you are giving away out of your house, if possible. Take them to your car, put in bags to leave your home, whatever. Free up that space

Let’s talk about that KEEP pile.

Are you really going to make a project from this book? If so, put post its on the pages of the patterns you want to make. This will make it easier to find later.

3. Organize Your Books!

How? Here are some suggestions:

  • Genre

  • Color

  • Alphabetical order

  • Size

Get them on a shelf so you can see them and use them.

4. A Plan for Future Books

My rule: I have to get something out of the books I buy in the future--ideas, tips, patterns, whatever. To be added to my space, they have to give me value. Period.

5. FUN Task

Grab a few books you haven't looked at for a long time, make a cup of tea, and relax while looking at the books. Get inspired!
