Week 16: HARDWARE || Sewing Organization Challenge

Just to recap: During the month of June, we are doing to be talking about Findings. I am defining sewing findings as small objects and accessories we would use in sewing. Items include buttons, snaps, zippers, hardware, and more.

This week we are discussing hardware and boy, do I have a lot of hardware! From keychain rings to clasps to clips and buckles, you name it, I've got it!

Unfortunately, this stuff tends to get all over, is difficult to organize, and especially tough to put away. Has this ever happened to you--you find a piece of hardware on the counter and even though you KNOW you should put it away where it goes, to do that you would have to dig through boxes and bins to find the spot to put it in. Instead, if you are like me, you shove it into the junk drawer. It's easier. So how can we make it easy to put findings away? That is my personal goal this week. If you struggle with this too, please join me in conquering this.

This week's tasks:

  1. Gather it all up into one place. This may be a bit more challenging than usually, because you may have "stuff" throughout the house.

  2. Sort, organize, and containerize: Find a way that makes sense to you to organize these things, but here's the trick--make sure it is EASY to put the item away. For me, I am putting them into this thread container. I am not sure if it will work or not, but sometimes you just have to try things out, right?

  3. Inventory what you have. Do you need to replenish some items? Are you constantly running out of D-rings? Do you always use the same size? Stock up! On the other hand, do you have WAY too many of an idea? Are there some that are not great quality and you don't pull them out to use them? If so, clean out the items you know you won't use and donate them.

  4. FUN Task: Make a keychain! Make a purse! A wallet! Whatever you choose, use some of this hardware you have it. It's fun!
