Week 21: What did I miss? ~ Sewing Organization Challenge

Updated: Aug 16, 2021

Welcome to Week 21 of our Sewing Organization Challenge!

What did I miss?

In this week's video, I focus on all the stuff I missed over the past 20 weeks. I will discuss thread, bobbins, and batting. I have great systems in place for thread and for bobbins, but my batting is a hot mess.

Check out this week's video:

Let's get started:

THREAD ORGANIZATION

My amazing husband build me this thread rack. We recorded the process in one of my very first videos. Here is a link to both the build and me loading the thread rack.

Also, to keep the tails of the thread in check, I use these ponytail holders I bought on Amazon. Although I know I can hook/secure the thread at the top of the spool, I like this method better.

BOBBIN ORGANIZATION

Bobbins can quickly become a knotted mess, can't they? To help contain them and well, tame them, I use plastic tubing from Lowes. I cut a piece of it and cut a slit and wrap it around the bobbin. It is like a miracle! It's cheap, easy, and works well. I love it!

BATTING ORGANIZATION

UGH. I wish I could tell you I found the perfect organization solution for batting, but I haven't. I currently have my batting stored all over the place, and I did take this opportunity to clean it out, pare it down, and get a system (at least a temporary system) into place. I will let you know how it works out.

For the batting scraps, I did cut them into manageable sizes for small projects like mug rugs and coasters.

Your Homework:

  1. Clean out and organize you thread. Toss the old stuff and donated what you won't use. Organize it in a way that makes sense to you, but make sure to control those ends somehow.

  2. Organize your bobbins. The same is true with your bobbins. They can quickly become a mess, can't they? Find a system that works and get them tamed.

  3. Wind a bunch of bobbins. Are you like me and hate stopping sewing to wind a bobbin? Try getting them ready before you sew. You will thank yourself for this later when you are the middle of a project.

  4. Contain your batting. Ugh. Do the best you can. Godspeed, my friend. :)

  5. Fun Task: Try some higher end thread. So worth it!
