It's a new month! That means it is a new topic! YAY! It is also our last month of this challenge. Time certainly flies by when you are having fun!
New Theme: August = Maintenance and Application
This month we will focus on those things that will just make our lives a little bit easier such as cleaning our space (this week), being organized with projects, and gearing up for that crazy season of sewing as enter fall and the holiday season.
This Week's Topic: Cleaning
I know, I know--cleaning? NO FUN! But it is a necessary topic, and, well, I wanted to get it over with so we can move on to more exciting topics.
Here are some of my cleaning habits. Maybe they could help you, too:
Clean Up After Every Project
Although it isn't any fun, it is a great habit to have. I clean up after every project and lint roll the services when I am finished putting things away. It has made a world of difference. I feel organized and less stressed during my next sewing session.
I make sure to clean my sewing machine table, my cutting table, and my ironing board--the three things that get covered with sewing stuff the most. I also clean up other areas, but these are my top three clutter stops.
When I am finished, I make sure to cover my machine, too.
What if I am not finished with a project?
If I am not finished, I load up the pieces and put them on a cookie sheet. This is a great way to stay organized and have your stuff all in one place. It also allows me to get everything out at once. Lastly, it fits well on top of my rolling cart. Perfect!
Vacuum and Dust Each Week
This has really helped me stay on task and makes me feel better about my space. Who knew sewing rooms could get so dusty? Anyway, this is a habit that I started a few months ago, and I am so glad I did, especially with a puppy who gets into EVERYTHING!
CLEAN MY MACHINE!
Because, well, why wouldn't you? It is the most expensive tool in my space. I make sure to clean it at least once a month but sometimes more often.
Your Homework:
Clean Up After Every Sewing Session: Put away your tools, rulers, fabric scraps, etc. and then make sure to use a lint roller to really tidy up. Finally, cover your sewing machine. I have the cover that came with my machine, but I remember my grandmother using a pillowcase. Whatever works, do that.
Establish a Cleaning Routine: At least once a week, vacuum and dust your space. I know, I know--NO FUN, but it is worth it. You will feel better about your space. Trust me on this one.
CLEAN YOUR MACHINE. CLEAN YOUR MACHINE. CLEAN YOUR MACINE.
Take a few minutes and just sit in your space. Look around. Enjoy. Maybe make a cup of coffee or tea and put on some nice music. You have worked hard. Enjoy how far you have come!
